Important Update from AFSCME Local 199

AFSCME Local 199 Family,

Today I was informed that one of our own AFSCME Local 199 members has tested positive for COVID-19. The member is an employee of the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources and works at the Miami Dade County Permitting and Inspections Center.

We are monitoring the situation very closely and contacting all that may have been in contact with this member to make sure that they self-quarantine and remain safe. I urge all of our members to stay in touch with your union so that we can keep abreast of your work situation. We are in constant communication with the County advocating for your health and safety during this State of Emergency.

As executive orders are announced at all levels of government, my main concern is how it affects all of our the employees in Miami Dade County. We have heard your concerns and are working diligently to get answers around staffing and leave moving forward. AFSCME Local 199 is working tirelessly on your behalf during this crisis. If you have an issue, please do not hesitate to reach out.

This is a defining moment in America and as you know, the public service workers of Miami Dade County are on the front lines of this health crisis. We will likely continue to see a spread of coronavirus until the availability of testing becomes more widespread. We may be in this for a little while and we must take every precaution to avoid infection including washing your hands, sanitizing all surfaces you use frequently and practicing social distancing as much as possible. Restassured, I am 100% dedicated to our members. We will be addressing more questions and concerns as answers become available and I will keep you updated every step of the way.

In solidarity,

Se'Adoreia CeeCee Brown

President of AFSCME Local 199
