Take Action

Why Join?

  • Do you want to build a better and more secure economic future for you and your family?
  • Are you hurting from a lack of quality, affordable healthcare coverage?
  • Have you ever been unfairly disciplined by your supervisor or forced to accept a demotion, suspension or other punishment you didn’t deserve?

If you answered yes to any of these questions it’s time to consider forming a union with AFSCME. With more than 1.6 million active and retired members nationwide, AFSCME is the strongest and most respected public services union in the country.

We consistently fight for and secure the best wages, benefits and working conditions for our members. Since so much of public service workers’ rights, benefits and funding are impacted by the actions of elected officials, we maintain a strong presence in the corridors of government, fighting to protect our members and holding politicians accountable for their actions. We stand ready to do the same for you and your colleagues.

Get in touch with us to have a preliminary conversation and to learn more. All conversations are strictly confidential and you will not be pressured to move forward until you are ready.

AFSCME Florida and AFSCME locals across South Florida are partnering with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the South Florida AFL-CIO and the Workers Rise for Climate Justice Coalition to develop campaigns aiming to protect and improve jobs, livelihoods, and communities.

We need your help! Please take a brief 5-minute survey to help us understand your views on climate change, green jobs and our path forward.

Since beginning his crusade against public pensions, John Arnold has been relentless in his attacks on retirement security for working families. Often, he pays others to do his dirty work for him. For example, he funds biased researchfrom the Pew Research Center. He has also funded failed ballot measures to gut public pensions. Recently, Arnold has begun funding a group that is much more explicit in its mission to eliminate public pensions. Armed with a cunningly deceptive name, the so-called Retirement Security Initiative (RSI) has been one of the most active opponents of public pensions in recent years.

Because of you, we’re one step closer to stopping a bill that will raise taxes on hardworking Americans to pay for massive tax cuts for the super wealthy and corporations.

Tell your representative NO:

  • To raising taxes on 87 million working families
  • To cuts to Medicare and 13 million people losing health insurance
  • To future cuts to Medicaid, Social Security and public education, and other public services

Tell them that everyone needs to pay their fair share.

Young AFSCME activists across the country are rising to meet this challenge, to welcome labor’s future.

Through our union’s Next Wave program, they are taking leadership roles in their unions and encouraging other young people to join.

Connecting with AFSCME members who share the same job – and the same passion for it – has never been easier. With AFSCME Facebook groups, you can be a part of a conversation where dedicated professionals from across the country swap stories, celebrate victories and gear up for future battles.

By joining one (or more) of the AFSCME Facebook groups, you’ll be able to stay connected with other AFSCME members who know what it takes to get the job done and who never quit on their communities.

Right now, 70 of your fellow Miami-Dade County coworkers are facing the real possibility that they could be out of a job in just a few weeks. That is because the Clerk of Courts is facing a budget crisis and, unless the Mayor and County Commission find a budgetary solution, front counter services at locations around the county and the workers who provide those services will disappear.

We need your help to save their jobs by calling the Mayor and County Commission and asking them to help Clerk of Courts Harvey Ruvin fix this problem today!
